Arthur Erickson Foundation

koerner-library: Walter C. Koerner Library, University of British Columbia, Canada Designed 1992 with Aitken Wregglesworth Associates The library has been planned for a number of successive phases. The first, now completed, has two stories below grade, integrated with the existing underground Sedgewick Library, and five stories above, for a total of 178,000 square feet. The principal facade will set the scale, image and architectural expression for the fully developed library. The second phase, planned immediately behind the first, will provide approximately 215,000 square feet of new space. The architectural composition of phase one is classical in response to the library's formal siting and traditional university context, while the materials and expression speak eloquently to the library of the 21st century.
