The purpose of this University differs from almost all other universities in that it does not prepare students for a specific profession or a general education. This University prepares them to propagate the message of Islam.
The University has ten faculties teaching different areas of Islamic study. Students are from all over the world, foreign students representing 85% of the student body. The master plan is for the expansion of the existing campus to accommodate a total student body of 7600 students, including 1600 pre-university students. The total teaching staff will number 780, with administrative, technical and service staff comprising an additional 766. The population of the campus will ultimately total about 18,000, including families, staff and students.
The 300-acre (120 ha) site is located to the west of the City of Madinah. It is bounded to the east by a major wadi and lies in an alluvial basin surrounded by rocky hills. Academic and academic support facilities will total approximately 1.6 million square feet and include faculty buildings, a major mosque, central library and a large auditorium. Non-academic facilities, student and staff housing will comprise about 600,000 square feet total construction will be in the order of 7.5 million square feet.
