filberg-house: Filberg House, Comox, British Columbia, Canada
Designed 1958
The house, designed for a secluded and scenic coastal setting, is a two bedroom pavilion lightly poised on a mound of sand atop a 200 foot cliff overlooking the Strait of Georgia near Comox, B.C. on Vancouver Island. It combines filagree screens with massive pink granite walls, curved ceilings and yellow cedar for all exposed millwork.
The house is 2,580 square feet in size. It was designed more as a luxurious retreat, a villa for relaxation and entertainment, than as a family residence and is an adventure in the "poetic geometry" of Mediterranean Baroque– rich, lavish, delicately graceful and highly imaginative.
