Erickson Massey Architects Office
Vancouver, BC, Canada
Designed 1968, with Geoffrey Massey
The Vancouver office originally designed for Erickson Massey Architects was a simple volume enclosing naturally skylit spaces. The outside walls were a
quiet, solid enclosure with split-faced concrete block on the exterior, and detached from the roof on the interior by a skylight. A large window opened into
the employees lounge area, otherwise the professional staff had no distracting view; that was left for the secretarial floor. Even Arthur’s office was was just
“a skylit cubicle”.
The structure of the office building was present in the solid timber tree forms that rise from the main floor to support the roof. Ferns and bamboo completed
the forest effect.
